Focus on One Banana and Blue Diamond

These two growers are leading the way in producing the finest quality produce delivered through ethical and sustainable programmes

One Banana are making a difference

One Banana sources and supplies exceptional quality natural banana ingredients, carefully grown on certified farms in Guatemala, Ecuador and Peru.

Their banana puree, flakes and powder ingredients are vegan and gluten free, with no additives or preservatives. They can be used as a natural sweetener, providing a rich source of nutrients that can benefit digestion, heart health and strengthen immunity.

Both nutritious and delicious, these banana ingredients are incredibly versatile and can be used in many products including baked goods, cereals, drinks, ice cream, yogurts, sauces, sports nutrition and baby food.

One Banana makes a difference, supporting both people and planet. They are committed to delivering their social responsibility and sustainability goals.

One Banana has implemented a number of initiatives to support better living conditions for workers, their families and communities. Through employment generation with living wage and equality commitments, health and nutrition clinics, education provision and school meal provision, they have provided welfare support helping more than 60,000 people in 60 different communities in Guatemala and Ecuador, and their 8,000 employees and their families.

Zero waste principles and conservation are key. One Banana have invested in cutting edge irrigation technology to reduce water usage, developed initiatives to promote bio-diversity, introduced reforestation programmes and implemented the use of new environmentally friendly materials throughout the growing process.

Blue Diamond are growing a better tomorrow

Blue Diamond Growers, a co-operative of nearly 3,000 almond farmers in California, ensure craft and care is woven into every step of the process to grow high quality, wholesome almonds.

These whole almonds and almond ingredients (including powder, flavoured, flaked, diced and butters) are used as a nutritious and delicious addition to cereals, bakery, snack bars and mixes, which provide a great source of fibre and protein, and are rich in nutrients.

Blue Diamond are passionate about their products, people and planet and offer a $45 million SDA Climate Smart Grant (CSG) program which empowers their farmers to implement climate-smart practices by providing cost-free seeds and plant materials as well as financial incentives.

The practices include cover crops, hedgerows and conservation cover. In the first year alone, Blue Diamond’s farmers planted cover crops in 17,000 acres of almond orchards.

Other initiatives include Blue Diamond’s Orchard Stewardship Incentive Program (OSIP) which ensures bee habitats and orchard diversity, as well as wider schemes such as water conservation, carbon emission reduction and packaging recycling initiatives.
